On behalf of the City of Miami and Youth Fishing Foundation, Inc. (“YFF”), we would like to invite you to partner with us in celebrating the 7th annual National Marina Day, to be held Saturday, August 9, 2008. The centerpiece of our festivities will be our second annual Fishing Tournament, to be run out of the City's Miamarina, located downtown at the Bayside Marketplace.
National Marina Day is an annual celebration of the important role marinas play in waterfront communities all across America. Each day, this country's marinas serve as a safe, family-friendly gateway to boating and as stewards of the environment. Our local marinas serve as gateways to boating, providing the important Infrastructure, that allow people seeking recreation on the water to safely begin and end their excursions.
Last year, with the help of our sponsors, our inaugural fishing tournament and related National Marina Day festivities were a great success. We kicked-off the activities by hosting a fishing excursion with a group of inner-city children participating in our City Parks program, many of whom had never been fishing before. The grins on their faces shined from ear to ear as each of them had an opportunity to ride in a boat and catch and release a fish on beautiful Biscayne Bay. At the end of their adventure, each child was given a rod and reel combo to take home with them.
On Saturday, August 11th, 2007 we hosted our first annual National Marina Day Fishing Tournament. While our anglers were busy fishing, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and volunteers from the Ocean Conservancy joined us at Miamarina educating our community about safe boating, improving our water quality through clean boating practices, and volunteer programs to remove litter and debris from our waters and shoreline. YFF brought its "touch tank” where children of all ages were able to touch and pick up live sea creatures like starfish and sea urchins.
Proceeds from our fishing tournament went to YFF in support of additional free fishing excursions for children and teaching them the basics of how to fish and fishing conservation. YFF was able to purchase more than 300 rods and reels with the proceeds which were given to children that participated in their fishing events and clinics held last year.
This year, the City of Miami is again partnering with YFF, a local non-profit organization dedicated to promoting education, conservation, citizenship, and fun among our children and their families through fishing adventures. All net proceeds from the tournament will be donated to YFF to further their worthwhile programs.
So help us celebrate our second annual National Marina Day Fishing Tournament by being a sponsor. Your sponsorship is not only tax deductible but provides a great opportunity to maximize visibility of your product or service, while assisting a worthwhile local youth recreational organization.
Our tournament is open to everyone. We'll provide tournament prizes including a Pee-Wee Angler and Junior Angler Awards. We will additionally provide educational literature about safe boating and clean boating practices during our event.
Thank you in advance for your consideration, and for any participation in this event that you may be able to provide. I look forward to seeing you at Miamarina on National Marina Day, August 9, 2008, for a great day of fishing and fun.
