Itinerary
Thursday, August 7 will consist of a Captain’s meeting to be held at
Miamarina at 401 Biscayne Boulevard, downstairs from the Hard Rock Cafe
beginning at 6:00 p.m. Hors d’oevres will be served. At least one person
from each boat must attend this meeting to receive captain’s bags and
the rules and regulations for the tournament. The rules are subject to
change at this meeting at the discretion of the tournament committee.
All entry forms and fees must be submitted by the conclusion of this
meeting.
Saturday, August 9 “Lines in” at 7:00 a.m. and “Lines out” at 3:00 p.m.
The weigh station will be open from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Miamarina.
Following the closing of the weigh station a dinner and awards ceremony
will be held at Miamarina. Tournament winners will be awarded their
prizes at the awards ceremony.
Rules and Regulations
1. REGISTRATION FEES - Entry fee is $275 per boat/team if received on or
before August 3, 2008. Entry fee is $325 per boat/team if received after
August 3, 2008. Each boat is allowed a maximum of 4 anglers. Extra
anglers may be added for $50 each and includes an extra tournament
shirt. There is a maximum of 6 anglers per boat. Each registered boat is
eligible for general prizes.
2. TYPE OF TOURNAMENT - This is a Boat/Team Tournament. No changes are
permitted in registered anglers after the conclusion of the Captain's
Meeting. All dolphin must be entered for official weigh-in in the
presence of a boat/team representative.
3. RULES - Unless otherwise stated, IGFA rules will apply throughout
this tournament.
4. FISHING LICENSE - All participating anglers must possess a valid
Florida Saltwater Fishing License.
5. CAPTAIN'S MEETING - There will be a Captain's Meeting on August 7,
2008, at 6:00 p.m. at Miamarina at 401 Biscayne Boulevard, downstairs
from the Hard Rock Cafe. At least one representative from each boat/team
must be present. All anglers are encouraged to attend. The rules of this
tournament may be amended verbally or in writing at the time of the
meeting. Anglers are responsible for being well informed of all rules.
6. ELIGIBLE FISH - Dolphin is the only species of fish eligible for team
prizes. All fish presented for weigh-in must be in fresh, edible
condition and caught that tournament day. No mutilated fish (based on
tournament committee's opinion) will be accepted. It is the angler’s
responsibility to maintain their catch fresh prior to the weigh in.
Minimum acceptable weight of 10 pounds is required for entry into the
tournament. All participating anglers are urged to release those fish
not to be entered into the tournament. The release of fish should be in
keeping with the best conservation methods to ensure continued life.
Acceptability of fish will be determined by the tournament committee.
Captains are required to log in there time of arrival to the dock with
tournament staff. This time will be recorded as your weigh in time.
7. BILLFISH - Billfish are not eligible for entry into the tournament
and should be released unharmed. Any angler bringing a Billfish into the
weigh station shall forfeit any claim he/she may have to tournament
prizes.
8. SCORING OVERALL TOURNAMENT: Only four dolphin per boat may be
entered. The tournament winner will be the boat that has the highest
combined weight of four dolphin. LARGEST DOLPHIN: The largest dolphin
weighed will win the largest dolphin prize. The largest dolphin may be
used in a boat's four dolphin total weight. LARGEST WAHOO: The largest
wahoo weighed will win the largest wahoo prize. LARGEST KINGFISH: The
largest kingfish weighed will win the largest kingfish prize. LADIES'
LARGEST FISH: The largest fish weighed of dolphin, kingfish, or wahoo by
a registered female angler will win the largest ladies' fish prize.
JUNIOR LARGEST FISH: The largest fish weighed of dolphin, kingfish, or
wahoo by a registered junior (Less than 16 years old on the day of the
tournament) angler will win the largest junior fish prize. All entries
must be weighed at the certified scale at the official weigh-in location
in the presence of the boat/team entering them. Weigh in will be held on
Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Miamarina. Anglers fighting fish
at lines out must contact the weigh master on designated frequency, and
must still adhere to the times of the weigh station. All fish must be
weighed in by 5:00 p.m., no exceptions. Tournament winners may be
subject to a polygraph test. Any fish may be examined by any means
necessary.
9. COMMUNICATIONS - All participating boats should be equipped with a
working VHF marine radio. The tournament committee will monitor VHF
channel 82. Official times or special notifications will be announced
during the tournament on this channel. NO WEIGH-IN STATISTICS WILL BE
AVAILABLE ON VHF RADIO.
10. TOURNAMENT HOURS - “Lines in” at 7:00 a.m. and “Lines out” at 3:00
p.m. Official time for both will be announced over VHF Channel 82. Fish
being fought at lines out time must be announced over Channel 82 and
weighed in no later than 5:00 p.m. The weigh station will close at 5:00
p.m. on Saturday.
11. WEATHER CONDITIONS - In the event of unsafe weather conditions, the
tournament committee may choose to postpone the tournament until a later
date. Captains are ultimately responsible for their crew and should make
the decision as to safe sea conditions.
12. BOUNDARIES - There is a 35-miles U.S. costal boundary. No Bahamian
or Cuban waters. (updated 8/4/2008)
13. PROTESTS - Any protests concerning the conduct of an angler or rules
violations must be filed in writing with the tournament committee no
later than 5:00 p.m. on the day of the alleged violation.
14. AWARDS - Tournament winners will be paid by check, which will be
mailed to winners after the ceremony. Trophies will presented at the
awards ceremony to be held approximately one hour after final weigh-in
at Miamarina.
15. TIES - In the event of a tie in weight, the winner will be determined by
the earliest weigh-in time.
16. REFUNDS - No refunds will be given.
17. RELEASE OF LIABILITY - It is expressly understood that all participants in
the Miami Fishing Tournament enter at their own risk and that the City of Miami
and Youth Fishing Foundation, their officers, directors, employees, volunteer
and all persons connected directly or indirectly with the operations of the
tournament, or any sponsor of the tournament shall be exempt from any liability
for slander, loss, damage, negligence, harm, injury or death suffered by any
participant, entrant, fisherman or their companions, boat captains, mates, crew
members, guests, vessels and equipment which may occur during the tournament.
All teams are charged with a thorough understanding of applicable laws and boat
safety rules.
18. SIGNING OF THE ENTRY FORM - By signing the entry form, the angler agrees to
follow the above tournament rules and that the tournament and/or it's sponsors
may use without payment or restriction any photographs in which he or she
appears for any purpose whatsoever but not limited to resale, advertising,
commercial or promotional material. All anglers are required to sign their entry
blank form as certification that they have read and agreed to abide by all rules
and the above liability release. NO ENTRY WILL BE ACCEPTED UNSIGNED.
19. POLYGRAPH Each registered angler specifically agrees and consents to
voluntarily submit to a polygraph examination or examinations at any time until
all prize winners and awards are determined and announced. Further, each
registered angler agrees to obtain the agreement and consent of each and every
occupant of the boat from which he or she fishes during the tournament
(including but not limited to the captain and crew) to submit to a polygraph
examination or examinations as described above. The method and conduct of all
polygraph examinations, and the interpretation of the results thereof, shall be
in the sole judgment of the polygraph examiner appointed by the Tournament,
whose opinion shall be final. If any registered angler or occupant of a vessel
refuses to submit to a polygraph examination, or if any registered angler or
occupant gives a response which, in the sole opinion of the polygraph examiner,
is untruthful, then all registered anglers on the boat shall be immediately
disqualified without further notice from the Tournament. Any registered angler
so disqualified shall not be entitled to any prize, award, or entry fee refund.
20. DISTRESS/EMERGENCY HELP – Any and all emergencies, distress or help messages
should be immediately brought to the attention of the United States Coast Guard.
The tournament committee is not expected, nor equipped to tow, assist or help
transfer or facilitate messages or communications. It is expected of the Captain
of the vessel to have all necessary USCG approved life and safety equipment on
board your vessel.
21. No hand lines or electric reels may be used, otherwise there are no tackle
or bait restrictions.
